Android Studio automatically creates a in the root of your project, which is how it invokes Gradle. The wrapper is basically a script that calls through to the actual Gradle binary and allows you to keep Gradle up to date, which makes using version control easier. To run a Gradle command, you can simply use the gradlew script found in the root of your project (or gradlew.bat on Windows) followed by the name of the task you want to run. For instance, to build a debug version of your Android application, you can run./gradlew assembleDebug from the root of your repository.
In a default project setup, the resulting apk can then be found in app/build/outputs/apk/app-debug.apk. On a.nix machine, you can also just run find.name '.apk' to find it, if it's not there. This is an attempt at a full guide 1.
Install Gradle and the Android SDKEither. Install these however you see fit. Run./gradlew, or gradlew.bat if on Windows. chmod +x./gradlew may be necessaryFrom this point onwards, gradle refers to running Gradle whichever way you've chosen.Substitute accordingly.
Setup the Android SDK.If you've manually installed the SDK. export ANDROIDHOME=. You may want to put that in your /.profile if it's not done automatically.Accept the licenses: yes sdkmanager. sdkmanager can be found in $ANDROIDHOME/tools/bin.
sdkmanager may have to be run as root.Try running gradle. If there are complaints about licenses or SDKs not being found, fix thedirectory permissions.
chown -R user:group $ANDROIDHOME. If you're reckless and/or the only user: chmod 777 -R $ANDROIDHOME3.
I'm trying to install Android Studio so that I can launch it from a launcher instead of via terminal.Android Studio Tools Create Desktop Entry doesn't do anythingCan someone give specific instructions please?I think this is something to do with the permissions in /usr/local/ I tried doing a chmod as explained in and it still didn't work.I tried modifying the Android Studio launcher file that was in /usr/share/applications/ and it would not launch the app under my user. If I launch it as root it's fine, but that's not very practical. Here is my AndroidStudio.desktop file which works from the launcher. Desktop EntryVersion=1.0Type=ApplicationName=Android StudioExec='/home/username/Programs/AndroidStudio/bin/studio.sh'%fIcon=/home/username/Programs/AndroidStudio/bin/idea.pngCategories=Development;IDE;Terminal=falseStartupNotify=trueStartupWMClass=jetbrains-android-studioNameenGB=android-studio.desktopIf you are unable to create an entry for Android Studio on the Unity launcher through the Tools Create Desktop Entry. Option, it is possible that you might have a Unity generated jetbrains-android-studio.desktop in your /.local/share/applications folder. To confirm, open the file and check for the following entry: X-UnityGenerated=trueDelete the file and try again.Alternatively, you can also open Android Studio, click on Configure - Create Desktop Entry.
This should create an entry on the dash.
